Summer of Love ‘08: 18 ways to live happy!

Daniel | June 27, 2008

Today I received a really cool e-mail from a friend and reader (thanks Mair!) that had a long list of tips for living.  We spend so much of our time living, but so little of our time learning how to do it better.  So I got to thinking, what’s some of the best advice I’ve ever gotten over the years, what am I doing that’s working, what have I done in the past that’s worked, and what do I need to get back to.  I ended up with a list of 18 things to focus in on over the summer, and I thought I’d share them with all of you.

With no further ado, I give you the Summer of Love ‘08 Happy Living Manifesto!  Well, the manifesto and a cool picture of a bunny I took at Disney…

1.) Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. While you walk, think of things that make you smile. You might find that you no longer need the Zoloft.

2.) Meditate or just sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Buy a lock if you have to.

3.) Always make time to exercise.

4.) Realize that life is a school and you are here To learn. My Grandfather called it “The School of Hard Knocks”.

5.) Drink plenty of water.  One easy way: start each meal by drinking an 8 ounce glass of it.

6.) Try to make at least three people smile each day.  Scratch that.  Count yourself, and make it four.

7.) Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good.

8.) Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

9.) Make peace with your past.  If you don’t, it will screw up the present.

10.) Don’t congratulate yourself too much, but don’t berate yourself, either.  Your choices are half chance.  Realize that this is true of everyone else, too.

11.) No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

12.) You aren’t in charge of anyone’s happiness except your own.

13.) Forgive everyone for everything.  Hey!  Don’t forget that “everyone” includes *you*!

14.) One way or another, everything *always* works out in the end.  If it hasn’t worked out, it isn’t the end.

15.) Your job won’t take care of you when you are Sick. Your family and friends will. Stay in touch with them.

16.) No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

17.) Each morning when you get up, complete the following statement:
Today I will accomplish _________.

18.) Each night before you go to bed complete the Following statement:
I am thankful for __________.
