The Zen of Sick, Busy and Tired.

Daniel | August 5, 2008

As near as I can tell, there isn’t really a Zen of sick, busy and tired.

I do want to ask you all to just bare with me a few days longer - shortly after starting training for the new job, I came down with some sort of sore throat, cough, stuffy head and congested chest sort of thing.  Being able to work from home turned out to be a mixed circumstance, as I was able to complete my training, but doing so prevented me from getting the kind of rest I need to heal when I have this sort of illness.  Even taking antibiotics, my illness has dragged on for almost 2 weeks, and left me with little energy or focus outside of what has been required for work.

I am starting to feel better, so I expect to be back to writing in the near future.

I have enjoyed reading all the wonderful comments during my impromptu hiatus.  It’s a lot of fun seeing what you think about what I think!

The Car, The Road and The (Mickey) Mouse

Daniel | June 21, 2008

I’d planned on writing a bit tonight about living in the moment.  Actually, I did write a bit about it.  Currently it’s in such a rough state I don’t feel comfortable inflicting it on you.

We’re leaving in the morning for 2 days at Disney, camping and hiking tomorrow and hitting the parks monday.  Things have been a little crazy around here, packing and planning, then changing it all when the unexpected happened.

Later this week I’m making a run to Atlanta to take some things that got left behind during their move to my sister and her family .  Since I’ll be up there, I’m going to stay a few days and get some visit time in.

I’ll get a couple posts up this week, and get a few scheduled for while I’m gone.

While I’m gone, I hope you are all happy, peaceful, and free from suffering.

And now, a picture of my cats and their first kitten, taken a few years ago, where they appear to be quite peaceful and free from suffering:

Kitchen Zen: Dough!

Daniel | May 9, 2008

A while back, I asked for suggestions - I was looking for a name for the category about my adventures in bread making.  I want to thank everyone that made suggestions, there were a lot of great ones.  I settled on the one in the title - “Dough!”.

I describe the category this way:

Bread, mindfully made by a beginner. The “Dough!” is a reference to the famous quote by Homer J. Simpson: “Doh!”, which is sure to be uttered numerous times during my bread making adventures.

I’m still working on the first post - I’ll have it up later today!

Side note: I just noticed that the title of this post is an unintentional play on the word “Zendo”, which roughly translates to “meditation hall”.

My Story

Daniel | April 20, 2008

I learned something this week.

I’m not good at writing about myself.  I was surprised to learn that, since I can talk about myself until even *I* am tired of hearing about me.

I have finally posted the “My Story” page.  Sometime in the next week, I’ll post a page that covers the story behind this blog, how it came about, and why I chose the title.
